Malorie D. I recently checked out the PBS website and saw under the "Success!" category you had me listed as working at Hair Excitement. I am no longer an employee there. I am currently working at the Michael Labrecque Salon on Newbury Street in Boston. Also I just wanted to share some good news that I am now an American Board Certified Colorist. Just wanted to drop you a note for the next time you update the site. The website looks fantastic and from the pictures it looks like the school has had some nice updates. Hope all is well

Brian A. enjoyed the sciences portion of our program because they were straightforward. But wished we could have attended more than one trade show while at school.

Lori S. transferred into our school to complete her program. She states that she liked EVERYTHING. That she went to a different school for 8 months previously, and learned more at PBS in 3 months than any time spent at the other school. Her confidence has increased. “I think PBS does an awesome job preparing us for the State Board exams and getting us ready for the real world.”

Siobhan L. writes that her favorite subject was Hair Cutting and Coloring. She found her “passion” in these two areas of her craft. Her least favorite chapters were Perming and Roller sets. “I have learned so much while attending PBS. I have limited complaints. I believe that PBS had given me all the knowledge I need to begin my career in the real world. PBS has given me the confidence and motivation to keep growing as a stylist. To me PBS became my family, the people I have met here have been there for me and I have made life long friends. I thank PBS for everything they have done for me.”

Chelsey M. writes that her favorite topic was the Color chapter. “With our location in down town Portsmouth we have a diverse clientele visiting our student salon which gives us a lot of opportunity to try, and in turn learn, new real world techniques.” Anatomy was her least favorite topic. She would like to have seen more in school hands on demos of Hair Cutting.

Tiffany S. writes, Portsmouth Beauty was a great place to learn Cosmetology. She finished, gained knowledge and now has her lifelong career in the palm of her hands. Curriculum, great advice, and she now has the knowledge of the basics and advanced knowledge of the field. She didn’t particularly enjoy Roller sets.

Jennifer D. wrote: “I loved that we got to learn a lot of ‘real world’ ways to do hair vs. just State Board ways and Roller sets. The extra outside education is great and really helped improve my knowledge – especially in Color.”

Brenda L.: PBS went above and beyond than they were obligated to help me obtain records from my previous cosmetology school to submit to the NH State Board of Cosmetology. In so many ways this school helped me to reinstate my cosmetology license. I have, and will continue to recommend PBS to anyone with interest in the cosmetology field.

BreAnna H.: Nicole, you have been great and I’m so happy to have followed my dreams and choice of PBS to begin my experience! I’ll miss being around but know that I’ll still be saying “How are you today Nicole!” I’ll miss you!

Megen G.: I am so sorry I never called to update you on where I was working. I received a letter in the mail and it reminded me to contact you. I am working at Bella Vita Salon and Day Spa in North Andover, MA. I have been there since I graduated and I absolutely love it. I am still an assistant and taking clients some days. We get a lot of education through the owner and through Redken. We are a top 200 salon, and have been featured in many magazines. I have met some famous hairstylists and I love doing hair! I never got to tell you that Portsmouth Beauty School was great and I really did learn sooo much. I have met other hairstylists out there and they were unsatisfied with their education and never got to work on live clientele much. When I tell them how PBS had a lot of clients and a wide variety of clients, how much we learned, the products we used, and the education we received, people are impressed. Thank you.

Jessica Malizia: Portsmouth Beauty School has given me the tools and education to go out into the filed of cosmetology with confidence and the aspiration to be a great stylist. The students and teachers are all very professional and personable. They make the environment of the school fun, and always bring new, cutting edge techniques to the floor. The amount of job opportunities and the one on one help the teachers give their students here at Portsmouth Beauty School are unlike no other, they truly are dedicated to their jobs.
The people I have met, the friends I have made, and the teachers that have taught me for the past year will be taken with me throughout the rest of my career.

Chelsey Doucette: I chose Portsmouth Beauty School out of all the schools that are in the area. My experience at this school was the best. I felt, as well as my mother did, that I had learned everything and more. I felt that I was very prepared to get my license and to pursue a career in the cosmetology field. I believe that PBS is one of the best and I wouldn’t have chosen another school. Thank you.

Danielle Field: When searching for a school to go to I went and visited a few schools. But, when coming here I knew this was the school for me. I loved the location and the way it was set up, basically everything about it. In my 11 months here I learned so much and I met so many people. This has been a great experience, and I am sad for it to end. I do have to say that the teachers are very smart, and are great educators. I don’t think I could have asked for better. All the students that come here are all kind and always helpful. The program was good, I feel I learned all the basic knowledge I need, and I hope to learn so much more. The only thing I disliked was the repetition of practicals when I was out on the floor, but I think they have improved since. I would recommend this school to anyone.

Nicole Lufkin: I think Portsmouth Beauty School of Hair Design was seriously the best thing that happened to me. When I first started I was in a point of my life where I felt like I was stuck. I knew I didn’t want to go to college anymore but I was getting older and had to figure out what it was that I was going to do with the rest of my life. When I was a child I used to play “hairdresser” with all my family and friends, and I always said that it was what I was going to be when I grew up. So I have fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a hair stylist.

I went to school from nine to four, which helped out a lot because I graduated sooner. So I would recommend going from nine to four rather then nine to three. Even though it is only one-hour difference the time does add up.

The instructors at PBS were always there for you. Whether you had a question about the perm solutions or even something as basic as which way to file the nail they always had an answer for you. They never made you feel like you were asking a ridiculous question. Also they were always there for you if you needed extra help on something as well.

The other students at PBS are great. Everyone pretty much helps out everyone. I seriously made some of my closest friends from there. Even though we all have graduated and moved on with our careers we still talk to one and other and get together when ever possible. It is just really nice that you get close with people that have the same interests as you.

Being on the floor was such a great time. I loved having clients and the best part was when they would come back to you. It really made you feel good about yourself! Also just having that practice made it so much easier for the “REAL WORLD”.

Another comment I have about the instructors is when it came to go for our state board exam we all knew what we were doing. They seriously drilled it into our heads and we knew our material. Obviously we were all nervous and not 100% sure of our selves, but the instructors do as much as they possibly can to help us achieve success.

Katey Hogan: Portsmouth Beauty School of Hair Design was a crucial part of where I am today. I'm 31 years old and after I had my first baby (who's now 2 years old), I knew that I didn't want to return to my 10 year sales career in "Corporate America". It was time for me to make a career change and find one that would fit the lifestyle that I wanted. My goal was to be successful professionally and personally as a mother and wife. At my age it was VERY hard to make this commitment, but I did and thank PBS for getting me to a place that I never thought I would be. A year seems like a long time, but for a career it's just a blink of an eye. Your 1,500 hours will be up before you know it and staying 9 4 P.M., M F really helps! My fellow students, the faculty, and the PBS staff really embraced me and made my stay at PBS one to remember. I've made some dear friends, who I will cherish forever, and I have so many contacts in the industry now. I'm currently employed at a salon in Rye, NH and I'm building a clientele, while balancing a wonderful at home life. I couldn't be happier! Thanks PBS for preparing me for such an exciting career!

Amanda Hamel: When I was searching for a school to learn and practice cosmetology I looked at about 7 different schools. All the schools seemed nice, but I continued my search and went home and found PBS on the internet. I made an appointment to visit the school, right in downtown Portsmouth. I was very impressed at how clean and organized the school was and how nice the students and instructors were. The owner, Nicole, came right out to greet me. One of the girls gave me a tour of the school as well as a manicure. While she was doing my nails she was telling me all about the school, the length of the cosmetology program, what is offered here and about her experiences.

I enrolled in PBS in February of 2006. I am very excited to tell you how much I learned through theory and my practical work. The teachers are great at this school and they will always answer your questions. I feel very confident about graduating and going to a salon where I know that I will be capable of performing any service that is asked of me.

If you’re out there, trying to decide which school to go to, I will say with confidence that you should enroll at Portsmouth Beauty School. This is a great environment and it’s a lot of fun.
